flamenco classes l schools
workshops l choreography
The
flamenco dance workshop is 120 minutes long with guitar accompaniment.
The level is beginners/intermediate, and therefore is suitable for both
novices and dancers trained in other styles who would like to learn flamenco.
The content of the class varies but can be described as an introduction
to contemporary flamenco allowing participants to experience the power
for themselves, and to be more aware of the complexities of a flamenco
performance. The workshop provides some insight into the technique of
improvisation, but the emphasis is very much on the rhythmic base of flamenco:
the compas (rhythm) as expressed in palmas (clapping), and
as applied to footwork, arms and hand movements. The workshop will introduce
the basic rhythms of several flamenco forms such as Alegrías,
Soleáres and Bulerías, and devote some time
to a piece of choreography in one particular form. Special attention is
given to body posture as this is crucial to strong flamenco technique.
